Promoting Learning and Skills

Learning & Skills is a further education and training provider based in Darlington. They offer a number of FREE courses to help local adults gain in confidence, upskill and get the job they want. These range from pre-entry level courses for people with limited skills and experience, through to A-level equivalent qualifications. They also offer apprenticeships and courses for younger learners aged between 16 and 18.

They are accepting enrolments now.

First Aid – Tuesdays, 1pm till 3pm, The Edge Church, DL3 6AR (4 weeks)

This course is for adults who would like to improve their first aid skills and create a safe environment in the home. It will focus on first aid procedures, ways to create a safe home, resuscitation skills, how to handle an emergency situation and more.

Family Health & Happiness – Wednesdays, 9.15am till 11.15am – Rydal Community Hub, DL3 7PS (4 weeks)

Help yourself and your family to promote self-esteem and build confidence, find healthy ways of dealing with stress, assist with gratitude and mindfulness and develop fun and relaxing activities to make and play together as a family.

Career Courses

Care Home Assistant ( in collaboration with local care homes) – 6th May to 9th May – 10am till 3pm – Coleridge Centre, DL1 5AJ (1 week)

This week long course will enable you to gain vital health and social care knowledge and skills for employment in various partner care homes, with a guaranteed interview upon completion. You will learn how to create care plans and person-centred care, as well as looking at the vital skills and attitudes needed to work in care.
