Back on Track

The YMCA ‘Back on Track’ bike project was instigated by Darlington students in Years 10 and 11.
During the summer holidays last year there was a serious motorbike incident which resulted in a Year 11 boy ending up in intensive care and suffering severe burns.  Unfortunately he was left with major life changing injuries.

The project had several key objectives:
-to educate young people about the consequences of riding motorbikes on roads
-to ensure all the young people are trained in basic first aid
-to break down barriers between local police and the young people as well as building positive and lasting relationships
-to teach the students about essential  and basic bike maintenance

The course was very successful with the students achieving several qualifications and having the opportunity to meet a range of people and participate in various activities.
