Don’t Do It Alone

Kooth, the UK’s leading digital mental health platform has launched the ‘Don’t Do It Alone’ campaign today, featuring five popular and well-known talents. The film, which features musician & entertainer, Chunkz; comedian & presenter, Amelia Dimoldenberg; DJ & producer, Jax Jones; Neo-soul singer/songwriter, Joy Crookes & author, broadcaster & activist, Riyadh Khalaf aims to encourage Gen Z to talk more about their mental wellbeing.  

The celebrities reveal every embarrassing habit of what they get up to alone, from cutting toenails and smelling the cheese, through to body popping to Celine Dion, showing teens it is ok to be open with people you trust. The film ends with the message that no matter what kind of problem you are struggling with, there is always someone alongside you to talk to when it comes to mental health, whether that be friends, family, or a professional from an organisation such as Kooth

Chunkz, Musician & Entertainer said: “It means a lot for me to be part of the campaign, a lot of my family and friends suffer with mental health issues so I know the importance of talking about your problems and not bottle up how you’re feeling, because it won’t get solved if you keep it to yourself. If I can help anyone out there suffering that’s all that matters to me, and because it means so much to me, and I’d love to help anyone out there needing it – I hope that my being part of this campaign does help at least one person to realise they’re not in it alone.”

The launch of ‘Don’t Do It Alone’ which coincides with Children’s Mental Health Awareness week, supports the latest data findings by Kooth revealing how COVID-19 is affecting the mental health of young people. Almost 40% of young people are presenting with  self-harm and suicidal thoughts, 30% with relationship issues and over 12% with sadness. 

Amelia Dimoldenberg, Comedian & Presenter said: “I have loved being part of the Kooth campaign, encouraging young people to ask for help and advice when it comes to mental health. And I always love an opportunity to see Chunkz again  One thing I’ve learnt is that getting into a good headspace takes training and Kooth are providing the tools to make it easier!” 

Joy Crookes: “I think it’s really important to help young people know that it’s ok to be open with how you’re feeling and what you’re going through, so that’s why I wanted to get involved with Kooth. Mental health is so important, especially now, so to help inspire young people to not deal with life on their own means a lot to me. It was really refreshing to be part of a campaign where I could be so honest about all my unique habits, and I hope it encourages others to know that we can all be in this together!”

Riyadh Khalaf, Author, Activist & Broadcaster said: “As someone who struggled with mental health issues as a teen, I knew straight away that I wanted to be part of this campaign with Kooth. I want the next generation to know it’s not embarrassing or a sign of weakness to ask for help when you’re feeling a bit crap. I’m a believer that conversations about mental health don’t have to be heavy, full of doom or boring. We can have a laugh while talking about our mental state – Let’s normalise it!”

Jax Jones, DJ & Producer said: “If 2020 taught us anything, it’s the importance of looking after yourself and your mental health, especially when times are rough. The fact that Kooth are there for anyone who needs help is critical, and super inspiring. I’m honoured to be a part of this campaign, and I hope sharing a few of my guilty pleasures will put a smile on someone’s face.”
